Designing a bathroom that delivers on both style and practicality is always rewarding, but this project presented a particularly interesting challenge. The room measured just 2.5m x 4m, yet the client's wish list included three key features: a freestanding bath, a walk-in shower, and a double vanity. Careful planning and clever use of space were essential to bring the vision to life without compromising on comfort or aesthetics.

The finished design creates a calm, spa-like atmosphere, centred around a stunning freestanding bathtub and complemented by sleek gunmetal brassware throughout. The dark metallic finish adds a contemporary edge while providing a striking contrast against the soft, natural palette of the room.

A standout feature is the bespoke walnut double vanity, designed specifically for the space. The warmth of the walnut cabinetry introduces a natural element to the room, balancing perfectly with the cooler tones of the tiles and creating a luxurious focal point beneath the illuminated feature mirror.

To maximise the sense of space, we selected large-format tiles in soft, neutral tones that could be installed across both the walls and floor. Using the same tile throughout helps to create visual continuity, making the room feel larger and more open. To add depth and interest, a darker colour from the same tile collection was introduced behind the bath and within the recessed niches, creating elegant feature areas without disrupting the overall flow of the design.

The walk-in shower provides a spacious and contemporary bathing experience, while integrated recessed storage keeps everyday essentials neatly tucked away. A wall-hung WC was chosen to maintain clear floor space, enhancing the clean, minimalist appearance and making the room feel even more spacious.

It's often the smallest details that make the biggest difference. As a final touch, the designer incorporated a wireless toothbrush charger within one of the illuminated recesses, keeping the worktop clutter-free while ensuring the charger remains easily accessible but completely hidden from view.

This project demonstrates that with thoughtful design and bespoke solutions, even a modestly sized bathroom can accommodate every item on a client's wish list while delivering a luxurious and highly functional space.

Although there is no shortage of inspiration online, nothing compares to seeing real samples in person. Working with an experienced designer allows clients to compare materials, colours and finishes side by side, ensuring everything works together beautifully. Just as importantly, a designer can apply years of practical experience to maximise the available space, overcome layout challenges and achieve a result that not only looks stunning but functions perfectly for everyday life.
