This beautifully refurbished family bathroom blends dramatic design with thoughtful, long‑term functionality. Deep dark‑blue recesses add architectural impact, enhanced by carefully placed lighting that draws out depth and contrast.

This bathroom was designed for a couple looking to future-proof their home without sacrificing style. One of the key objectives was to create a space that would comfortably support the changing needs associated with a degenerative condition, recognising that mobility could become more challenging over time. Measuring a generous 4m x 2.5m, the room provided ample space to incorporate the practical features required while still delivering a sophisticated and visually engaging design.

The functional elements of the room included a boxed-in bath, offering a safer and more stable seating option, alongside a level-access wet-room shower area designed for ease of access. Discreet grab rails were carefully integrated throughout the scheme, chosen in matching finishes to ensure they felt like intentional design features rather than clinical additions.

The main design challenge was preventing the long wall from feeling dominated by functionality. With so many practical requirements to accommodate, it was essential to introduce interest, balance and visual form across the space. Through careful planning of the furniture, sanitaryware and tile layout, we created a composition that draws the eye around the room and feels considered and elegant rather than purely functional.

Dark grey furniture was selected to blend seamlessly with the dark metallic brassware and fittings, creating a cohesive, contemporary aesthetic. To complement the scheme, we chose tiles from a collection that offered coordinating finishes for different applications. Smooth wall tiles provide a clean, refined appearance, while matching slip-resistant tiles were used within the shower area to improve grip and safety underfoot. Although the textures vary according to their function, the consistent design ensures a seamless look throughout the room.

The finished result is a bathroom that balances accessibility, safety and luxury, delivering a space that meets the clients' current needs while adapting gracefully for the future.
